As part of Qatar’s ongoing relief programme for the people of Syria, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has deployed a new land aid convoy to Syria, in co-operation with the embassy of Qatar in Damascus and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society (SARCS). The aid convoy comprised eight trucks, carrying a total of 34 tonnes of medical, food, and non-food aid, at a total cost of QR4.2mn. Earlier this month, it departed from QRCS warehouses in Doha and travelled overland through Saudi Arabia and Jordan, heading for Damascus, Syria. SARCS will be responsible for receiving and distributing the aid shipment to those most in need, according to the plan. **media[410042]** The aid provided by QRCS included medical equipment and supplies to support Syrian health facilities (such as dental clinic equipment, panoramic X-ray machine, and medical beds), medical aids for persons with special needs (such as wheelchairs, walkers, and electric patient lift), and thousands of medical supplies needed for everyday activities at health facilities (such as wound dressings, bandages, medical gloves, vital signs monitors, and other medical materials for treatment, nursing, and ICU). Also, the convoy was loaded with more than 30,000 units of various essential medications, including antibiotics, pain killers, respiratory/topical medications, and maternal and child health care supplies. There were large quantities of winterisation clothing and items, totalling more than 65,000 pieces for adults and children (male and female), along with essential food items, such as olive oil, and other necessities for living and shelter. Moreover, service equipment was provided, including solar-powered refrigerators, coolers, and water and sanitation equipment, to help maintain essential services at the target locations and bolster health and safety measures. This is one of a series of Qatari aid convoys provided for the people of Syria. QRCS had already deployed successive air and land aid convoys from Doha to Damascus. These shipments included medical equipment and relief supplies, in co-operation with Sidra Medicine, the embassy of Qatar in Damascus, and SARCS, adopting a humanitarian approach aimed at enhancing the resilience of major institutions and alleviating the suffering of affected and displaced people in Syria.
