The Executive Board of the World Health Organisation held on Tuesday a special session to select and appoint new regional directors for the WHO in the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, and the Western Pacific regions. The session was chaired by the State of Qatar, represented by HE the Minister of Public Health and President of the WHO Executive Board Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari The special session took place as part of the meetings of the 154th session of the Executive Board, currently convened in Geneva.During the session, Dr Hanan Balkhy was appointed as the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Saima Wazed as the WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia, and Dr Saia Ma'u Piukala as the WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific.HE Dr al-Kuwari congratulated the newly appointed regional directors of the WHO, wishing them success in their roles for the benefit of the organization and the respective regions. She also conveyed her gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of the outgoing regional directors, acknowledging their contributions to the development of the organization and wishing them success in their future endeavors.
