Proceeding with its humanitarian support for the people of Gaza, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is planning to deploy a relief aid ship, equal to the capacity of some 30 aircraft, in order to deliver as much Qatari aid against the blockade. Set to leave Doha soon, the aid ship is part of Qatar’s ongoing relief efforts since October 7, thanks to the #PalestineDuty fundraising campaign. It will carry a wide range of vital relief materials to meet the health, food, and shelter needs of affected people. The #PalestineDuty campaign was launched on Qatar National Day Monday with three locations designated to receive cash and in-kind donations from the visitors of Katara-Cultural Village, Souq Waqif, and Darb Al Saai. Also, Qatar TV broadcast a live show from 5pm to 12midnight to receive donations and pledges from the public, in solidarity with the desperate people of Gaza. The campaign was co-launched by the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, Qatar Media Corporation, QRCS, and Qatar Charity. The Qatar TV show was attended by QRCS acting secretary general Faisal Mohamed al-Emadi, Relief and International Development Division director Dr Mohamed Salah Ibrahim and Communication and Public Relations Department director Mohamed Rashid al-Marri.From October 7 to December 17, QRCS provided 44 planeloads of humanitarian aid via the Qatari airlift in support of Gaza and allocated $5.5mn from its Disaster Response Fund for phase one of emergency relief intervention, with partial funding from Qatar Fund for Development and other donors. In co-operation with the Egyptian Red Crescent and Palestine Red Crescent Society, a QRCS relief team is receiving relief shipments in Al-Arish, Egypt, and supervising storage, packing, and transportation to the Rafah Border Crossing, to be entered into Gaza.So far, nearly 350,000 beneficiaries have received QRCS aid at the shelters of internally displaced people.
