Shura Council partakes in coordination meetings on sidelines of IPU assembly

The Shura Council has participated in the joint meeting between the heads of geopolitical groups and the heads of the Standing Committees of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held on the sidelines of the147th IPU General Assembly hosted by the Angolan capital, Luanda. HE Shura Council Member and President of the IPU Committee on Peace and International Security Mohamed bin Mahdi al-Ahbabi represented the Shura Council in the meeting. The meeting discussed a range of issues concerning the geopolitical groups, as well as discussing the topics included in the agenda of the standing committees of IPU and coordinating about them. Heads of geopolitical groups discussed their key activities during the past period, and discussed reinforcing the joint co-operation, as well as the contribution of the standing committees in IPU's strategy. In a related context, HE Mohammed bin Mahdi al-Ahbabi participated in the coordinative meeting of the Islamic group, which is discussed an array of topics related to the coordination of positions and adopting a unified position towards issues of common concern. The participants agreed to form a select committee to forge consensus on the situation in Gaza so that it is submitted as an emergency item on the agenda of the General Assembly under the name of the Islamic group. In addition, the Shura Council participated in the coordinative meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly. The participants discussed a report on the assembly's activities during the past period, along with the plans for the upcoming period, in addition to discussing the possibility of reaching a strategy to coordinate a unified position on matters that concern the assembly.
