A considerable number of local farm owners have started the process of preparing their farms to the upcoming agriculture season, set to start in September.Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, they pointed out that the land is being tilled, and adequate fertilisers are being used to enhance the quality of the soil. The farmers have started to plant some seedlings in nurseries in preparation to transfer them to the fields next month. Some have already started to plant crops that could tolerate hot weather. These include sweet melon, water melon, and pumpkin.Mohamed al-Kubaisi, a farm owner, said his greenhouses have summer crops such as watermelon planted. The open fields are being prepared to start planting in September. He said that the farm will plant over the upcoming season crops including capsicum, zucchini, tomato, and others. The farm was able to produce around 15 tonnes of different types of vegetables over the past year from a space of around 15,000 sqm.Nasser al-Kuwari, farm owner, said that he has started preparation for the new agriculture season since the start of August. His farm is spread across nearly 300,000sqm.Yousef Tahir, farm owner, said that his farm is almost ready to start planting by the end of this month. The types of vegetables will include green peas, eggplants, pumpkin, and zucchini. Tahir is not planting tomatoes this year due to the losses incurred the previous years.Nasser al-Kuwari, farm owner, said that preparations are progressing well at his farm and he will plant only the same crops that were successful last year.Mohamed Mossa, agriculture engineer, said that some types such as cucumber are being planted all year round inside the cooled greenhouses, while others await the agriculture season set to start next month, when open field plants could flourish.
