Qatar University (QU) announced the launch of its new strategy (2023-2027), which prioritises enhancing the quality of academic education to meet international standards and crafting educational initiatives that embrace contemporary technological and scientific progress, thus empowering students to adeptly confront forthcoming challenges.The new strategy was announced at a press conference by QU president Dr Omar al-Ansari, along with vice presidents, deans of colleges, faculty and administrative members, and representatives from the Student Representative Board.This strategy follows over a full academic year of dedicated effort, Dr al-Ansari said while explaining that part of the effort was focused on evaluating the previous strategy and the challenges the university faced."The new strategy focuses more on the university's role in its surrounding community, aiming to be an active and influential element in society. The efforts aim to steer the university towards serving the nation and realising the targeted national objectives," QU president added.Dr Khalid al-Khanji, chief strategy and development officer emphasised the university's substantial and pivotal role in shaping and guiding both the local and national community. The new strategy places greater emphasis on the university's impact within its surrounding community, illustrating the institution's dedication to fostering change and innovation.“The strategy includes several key objectives, including providing flexible educational programmes that align with the pillars of excellence in education and the characteristics of Qatar University graduates according to current and future needs, as well as enhancing the non-classroom student experience to ensure the continuity and success of students."The university also aims to enhance its leadership in interdisciplinary education for health professions, and to provide innovative research that meets the country's healthcare needs, in addition to enhancing the quality and impact of research in specific fields in response to the needs of the community."The strategy also includes the development of human resources and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of support services, as well developing the university campus to support the university's mission and vision, as well as increasing sources of funding and diversifying investments to ensure sustainability and continuous development," Dr al-Khanji added.Abdulrahman al-Sayed, a member of the Student Representative Board, affirmed the prominent role played by students in shaping QU’s new strategy, expressing the deep pride students feel towards this contribution.“I had the honour to participate in the sessions held to prepare the new strategy. The university ensured the involvement of students in preparing the strategy, listening to their inputs and suggestions. The university prioritises its students, and works hard to prepare them well to be qualified personnel capable of meeting the national needs.”Al-Sayed also highlighted the positive future impact of the new strategy on the university and the students, describing it as “not just a plan or a document on paper, but a true expression of the university's strategic thinking in improving the student experience and life.”“We pledge to the university and its administration that we will meet their commitment to us with hard work, and we will approach our studies with dedication and diligence to be the best ambassadors representing the university, whether at home or abroad,” he added.
