A gathering of 400 guests, including a number dignitaries from various walks of life, attended a reception hosted in Doha by Bangladesh ambassador Md Nazrul Islam on Sunday on the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.Qatar's Minister of Environment and Climate Change HE Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali al-Thani was the guest of honour. The envoy in his remarks, paid profound homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his lifelong struggle, charismatic leadership and historic contribution.Ambassador Nazrul Islam remembered the supreme sacrifices by national leaders, the martyrs and the freedom fighters of the liberation war of Bangladesh. He expressed gratitude to the friendly countries and people who lent support to Bangladesh during the war of independence.Describing Bangladesh as a ‘Development Miracle’ he highlighted the socio-economic progresses of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Government’s vision to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and transform Bangladesh into a smart developed country by 2041.Ambassador Nazrul Islam also underscored the exemplary success of Qatar in the sectors of development, diplomacy, sports, international and regional peace and stability under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and thanked him and the Government of Qatar for continued support to the Bangladeshi expatriates in Qatar.Bangladesh’s history, independence, determination and development, heritage, natural beauty, art and culture were presented through dance and song performances by Bangladeshi students and Doha-based Bangladeshi singers.
