Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has carried out a campaign to clean Fuwairit Beach with the participation of 76 volunteers. QRCS’ latest campaign, in co-operation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, QatarEnergy, and Qatar University, aims to prepare the beach for the turtle nesting season this month.Hussein Aman al-Ali, director of Volunteering and Local Development Division at QRCS, said: "I am proud of the efforts of our volunteers who responded immediately to the invitation to this assignment. They helped to clean Fuwairit Beach, known for its ecological diversity, which attracts many visitors throughout the year."In co-operation with several partners, we sought to remove the waste and contaminants that may affect marine life there, as well as to raise awareness of the importance of environmental conservation."I would like to thank all the volunteers who contributed to this campaign, the senior officials at the partner organizations who supported the event, and QRCS’s EMS professionals who provided medical coverage", he added.In 2023, QRCS’ Volunteering and Local Development Division is pursuing a series of social welfare and assistance projects for the benefit of 32,481 vulnerable people, at a total cost of QR21,521,300. These projects include (1) healthcare for 6,924 poor patients; (2) monthly payments for 1,668 poor people, students, and orphans; (3) repayment of the debts of 59 people in default; (4) in-kind assistance such as food baskets, furniture, or home appliances for 90 poor families; (5) diverse assistance to meet the needs of 20,000 expatriate workers; (6) urgent cash assistance for 1,480 individuals experiencing some emergency; and (7) vocational training for 900 penitentiary inmates.Last year QRCS provided QR 27,819,841 worth of social assistance for 170,345 beneficiaries, and 52,385 persons benefited from community development activities, at a cost of QR 968,369.To support QRCS’s local development and social welfare projects, people can donate via the website (www.qrcs.org.qa) or mobile application (QRCS), call the donor service (66666364) or home donation collection (33998898), or send an SMS with "Qatar" to the following numbers: 92552 (QR 250), 92869 (QR 350), 92092 (QR 500), 92556 (QR 750), 92246 (QR 1,000).
