HE the President of the Global Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri highlighted that Qatar plays a major role in promoting the fight against corruption in partnership with the United Nations.In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Dr al-Marri hailed the large turnout in Wednesday's 2023 parliamentary dialogue on the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), and the GOPAC annual general meeting as evidence and a great indicator that the world has confidence in Qatar, and its true support for anti-corruption issues.He said the dialogue between parliamentarians worldwide, through the GOPAC, focuses on activating the UNCAC and the role of parliaments and creating appropriate legislation to activate these agreements.The GOPAC brings together parliamentarians from all over the world, and aims to activate the role of parliamentarians in everything related to corruption issues, he said.Qatar's GOPAC presidency provides good support to the organisation, he said, stressing that sustainable development cannot be achieved unless corruption is fought, with the aim of preserving the capacities of future generations.His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award supports those who fight against corruption around the world, he said, praising the award, which has become a great platform to highlight the parties who are facing corruption in isolated places of the world, referring to the partnership between the UN and Qatar in this regard.(QNA)
