Education City Stadium will be transformed into the hub of women sports in Qatar, while hosting numerous events and training programmes. This is in line with the continuous efforts made by Qatar to make sports inclusive and accessible to all. Alexandra Chalat, director of World Cup Legacy at Qatar Foundation (QF), told local Arabic daily Arrayah that QF will transform the stadium into a sports destination for women and girls, hosting activities concerned with the health and psychological well-being of women.Besides, the stadium will also host educational activities for children."Qatar Foundation has always paid attention to providing opportunities for women within Education City, especially in the areas of education and psychological well-being. Currently, 72% of teachers and staff members are female. Majority of the teaching staff in the pre-university education system and higher education students in its universities are female,” she said, adding that QF is looking to empower girls and women through sports by creating a space dedicated to meeting their needs in terms of facilities, sportswear and lifestyle."We want to understand and appreciate women's needs, and allow them to exercise easily in a way that suits their needs, which may be represented by some of them preferring to train in women-only halls, or wearing certain sportswear, or any other requirements related to exercise," she explained. The stadium, after its redesign, will attract female athletes from all over the region, while there is also a plan to establish a school sports academy and a special training centre to develop women's sports performance. QF is closely working with all parties concerned to support the sports system in Qatar."We will work to ensure that a range of options are provided to women, starting from providing training grounds for national teams, through hosting major international events, and ending with providing training and arbitration opportunities. QF is currently working with many local and international entities and experts, in addition to former sports advisers, to benefit from their experiences and recommendations,” she explained.
