The three first winners of the Al Da'aw (falcon speeding) premier championship and Saluki dog race were announced Saturday during the 14th edition of the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2023). From among the 25 falconers from Qatar and the other GCC countries who took part at the final round of Al Da'aw, the winners were Fahd Mohamed al-Mansuri from Saudi Arabia in the first place, Mohamed Khebab al-Nuaimi from Qatar in second and Fahd Saad al-Azmi from Kuwait in third.Fahd al-Essari, head of the Al Da'aw Committee at Marmi 2023, said the final of Al Da'aw is considered among the strongest competitions of the festival as the results are estimated in a fraction of a second to determine the winning falcons. He stressed that it was clear that the falconers had adequately prepared their falcons and gave them the best training as the difference in determining the first three places was just some fractions of a second between each contestant.The winners expressed their appreciation for the good organisation of the festival and said it was a highly challenging competition, one that needed much preparation to equip falcons with enhanced skills.Meanwhile, two participants won the Saluki dog race competition out of 15 contestants. The winner of the first place is Al Hasher team, with Nasser Saeed al-Moftah coming in second. Ibrahim Khalil al-Tamimi, member of the Saluki Dogs Race Committee at Marmi 2023, pointed out that the finals of the Saluki race are often exciting and simultaneously surprising. He said the strong and experienced dogs, which have undergone extensive speed and endurance training, usually prevail in such races. He also stressed that the participants should always make serious preparations for this race.Meanwhile, the spectators said they have enjoyed an exceptional atmosphere of excitement and joy as they follow the heated competitions, which have been full of hard-to-predict results. Marmi 2023 has been organised by Al Qannas Qatari Society at Sbkhat Marmi in the Sealine area, under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, and will continue until January 28.
