The seventh edition of Mahaseel Festival began on Thursday in the southern area of Katara, offering various agricultural, horticultural, poultry and dairy products.The festival has been organised by Katara Cultural Village Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and the Qatari farmers' forum, the official Qatar News Agency reports.The festival will run daily until January 28, followed by the Mahaseel Market that will be held on weekends until mid-April.Katara Human Resources Department director Saif Saad al-Dosari inaugurated the festival and hailed it as an important annual shopping occasion for Katara visitors.Youssef Khaled al-Khulaifi, director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality; Salman al-Nuaimi, chairman of the organising committee of the festival, and a number of Qatari farm owners and representatives of participating national companies attended the inaugural ceremony.Al-Dosari said the hosting of the seventh edition of the festival proves the initiative's success in achieving the goals for which it was established, particularly spreading the culture of consuming local agricultural and poultry products. These sectors have witnessed great development over the years, he said, noting that the festival's high-quality products and multiple choices have helped it attract shoppers.On his part, al-Khulaifi said the festival is being held through co-operation between Katara and the ministry, which is keen on the participation of and co-ordination between the two sides, and because of the importance that Katara enjoys as a tourist and entertainment destination that attracts visitors from different nationalities.He noted that all of this contributed to enhancing the role of the festival as a unique destination for displaying national products of different typesThe festival showcases the development of the local agricultural product in terms of both quantity and quality, in addition to being an opportunity for citizens and residents to learn about the diversity of the local product, al-Khulaifi added.Al-Nuaimi said this edition brings together 28 local farms and eight nurseries, in addition to six companies specialised in poultry, meat and dairy production.The festival will be open from 9am to 9pm until January 28, while the Mahaseel Market will continue after that on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays every week until mid-April, he added.The official said this year's Mahaseel includes a number of accompanying attractions, such as art workshops and different activities, providing a beautiful opportunity for the family to shop and spend some enjoyable times.
