A Qatari entrepreneur has launched her debut project in the fashion industry adopting a modern and sophisticated approach in cloth design and fabric making.Noor al-Jaber, who describes herself as an entrepreneur and conceptualiser, told Gulf Times that she launched her Franco-Qatari luxury brand sportswear Lumi (lumi-vie.com, Instagram: _lumivie_), based both in Doha and Paris."I have been interested in business and cloth design for many years," she recalled. Accordingly, she went to Paris and spent almost eight years, studying the industry and all the related topics and she followed closely the international fashion scene and the latest trends. It was in Paris that she decided to start her own line of designs, blending the oriental and Qatari culture with the Western and European trends to come up with a unique design that enhances the lives of people. She created new concept designs of Abaya, adding more colours and better fabrics that are lighter and last longer while maintaining its lustre and heritage appeal."I have come up with new designs for Abaya and introduced more colours other than the usual black colour, so the Abaya will serve more purposes for everyday life of the modern women. The new designs of Abaya will attract more women from different cultures to try it. In this way, clothes and fashion could be a useful and practical means for culture exchange and enhancing diversity and acceptance of others," Noor pointed out.She said that during the period of Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns in many places around the world, she focused her studies in the field and came up with various new ideas and concepts, which helped her open her first showroom in November at a department store in Doha, in addition to her online store and use of social media platforms to maintain multiple points of sale and to reach out to more customers.Noor has also been running a pop-up kiosk at Msheireb Downtown Doha, where she benefited greatly from the influx of tourists and fans from around the world during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 period."We had very good business during this period and it was an excellent opportunity to introduce my brand and the culture of the country to others. Such global events being organised in Doha is an excellent opportunity for young Qatari entrepreneurs to enhance their creativity and come up with more ideas to attain more customer reach out," she said.Noor pointed out that her brand Lumi adopts a practical approach towards the environment with durable and breathable fabrics, including some of them made from almost 100% recycled and recyclable materials."I am a sportswoman and athlete, so I pay more attention to make comfortable and fashionable sportswear that suits the local climate," she added.
