The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has announced a package of healthcare assistance to the most vulnerable patients in Syria.In a statement on Monday, the organisation said the humanitarian interventions include providing prosthetic limbs for amputees and securing essential treatments for cancer patients, with the aim of easing suffering and improving access to quality medical care.QRCS said it is currently working to supply chemotherapy and immunotherapy medicines for displaced and impoverished Syrian cancer patients receiving care at oncology centers in the country.The charity also plans to fit hundreds of prosthetic limbs, alongside offering physiotherapy, rehabilitation services and assistive devices for people with disabilities and amputations.As part of the initiative, QRCS teams have delivered a 3D printer to a prosthetics center in Idlib province, as well as an immunohistochemistry (IHC) device to the local pathology laboratory. The support falls under a project designed to improve access to medical services for displaced people in northern Syria.The project is being implemented in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and Syria's Ministry of Health.According to QRCS, the 3D printer will be used to design and manufacture advanced prosthetic limbs using modern technologies that remain scarce in Syria. The IHC device is expected to enhance the ability of specialist medical teams to accurately detect and diagnose cancer, benefiting tens of thousands of patients.Syria's healthcare system has been severely strained by years of conflict, with shortages of equipment, medicines and specialist services particularly affecting displaced communities.
