German library to return books looted by Nazis

After 77 years, 22 books stolen by the Nazis are tobe returned to the library of the HohenEichen House, a Jesuit centrein the eastern German city of Dresden.The university and state libraries in Saxony said the volumes wouldbe handed over on Wednesday.The books, identified by a stamp mark during a research project intoNazi loot, include a dictionary of church terminology.HohenEichen House was founded in 1921 and is the centre of the Jesuitorder in Dresden and the nearby town of Meissen.It was closed by the Nazis in 1941 and all of the buildings and theircontents were confiscated.An unknown quantity of books were gifted by the Gestapo to the statelibrary. All but 22 of those were destroyed when the city was bombedby the Allies in 1945.
