Fourteen dead in attack on Burkina Faso church

Fourteen people died and several were injured ina "barbaric attack" on a protestant church in Burkina Faso's east,President Roch Marc Christian Kabore said late on Sunday. "I condemn the barbaric attack against the Protestant Church ofHantoukoura in the department of Foutouri, which left 14 dead andseveral wounded," Kabore said on Twitter.The president offered his condolences to the bereaved families andwished a speedy recovery to the wounded.The attack took place near the West African country's border withNiger, a troubled area where numerous extremist groups are currentlyactive. In recent times the so-called "tri-border region" between the twocountries and Mali has been particularly troubled.In May, gunmen stormed a Catholic church in Dablo, a rural communityabout 100 kilometres north of the town of Kaya in the country'snorth-east, killing six people.
