Souq Waqif outlets get ready for Qatar National Day celebrations

Gifts and clothing shops at Souq Waqif have completed preparations for the upcoming Qatar National Day celebrations.The outlets have stocked adequate quantities of items associated with the celebrations, such as the Qatari flag, accessories, T-shirts and other dresses, as well as various souvenirs based on the National Day theme.Wide varieties of the apparels, accessories and souvenirs are available at these stores, giving customers different options.The shopkeepers have been keen to provide National Day-themed items, particularly for children, as the demand for such products is high ahead of the occasion that is considered special by everyone living in the country. During the celebrations, children could be seen dressed in the traditional Qatari attire and carrying accessories bearing the colours of the national flag.Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, some customers and shop operators stressed that the turnout of shoppers at Souq Waqif increases dramatically ahead of the National Day. It mostly comprises people looking for festive items that will help them express their love for the country. Mohamed al-Khowar, a customer, said he went to the market to look for a traditional festive dress for his daughters to take part in their school celebrations, highlighting the colours of the Qatari flag. He noted that many shops at Souq Waqif provide such items at good prices and with wide varieties.Sayed Ahmed, a tailor, said his shop has received a considerable number of orders for National Day dresses for both boys and girls with prices starting from QR35. He added that some adults have also ordered specially designed clothes for the occasion.Mohamed Ali, a gift shopkeeper, said the stores at Souq Waqif provide various options - from flags, mementos and cups to watches, medals and other items based on the theme of National Day.Abdullah al-Mashhadani, manager of a store selling traditional clothes and swords, said there is “excellent demand” for such items ahead of the National Day with some locally made swords being sold for QR500, going up to QR1,200, depending on the type and quality. These are mostly used in the traditional dance (Ardha) held during the celebrations.
