Proud moment for ‘Champion Speakers of Qatar’

The annual communication championship, Qatar Talks, has yielded yet another set of ‘Champion Speakers of Qatar’, the organisers have said.In the Adults Inspirational speech segment, CJ Rojas claimed the champion’s title as he wove his speech around the theme ‘Aim for the success but really enjoy the process’.The second-place winner, Tariro Matibiri Dorcas, narrated the story of her family and “made us realise that one should live to the fullest and die empty”, a press statement noted.The third-place winner, Anupama Kasibhatla, recounted a culinary involvement that was a bittersweet experience for her and which brought out the best in her. The Adults Humorous champion was Priya Shembekar. Looking back at various trials and tribulations of love, Priya “took us on the journey of her quest to find Mr Right”.The second-place winner, Shanty Rose, delivered a funny treatise on the relationship between mothers and teenage daughters, while third-place winner Tapasvi Kumar shared the struggles he had to overcome because of his feminine-sounding name.The Juniors Speech contests this year brought to the fore confident students with a myriad of talents. In the Humorous speech contest, Varun Gupta from DPS-MIS was declared the champion speaker, while Sajjad Haitham from American Academy was the second-place winner and Shourya Pratap Bisht from Shantiniketan School the third-place winner.In the Junior Inspirational speech contest, the champion’s trophy was claimed by Dianne Baustista from Philippine School Doha, while second place went to Aakash Alias from MES Indian School and third place to Kevin Davis from Rajagiri Public School.The contests were launched in 2004 by founder-convener MI Farid. Qatar Talks, formerly known as the ICC ONE Communication Championships, has inspired more than 2,000 Qatar residents to explore their public-speaking skills, the statement added.Susmita Pattnaik, the chief co-ordinator, opened the proceedings by citing a poem that talked about “togetherness, hundreds of voices and thousands of ideas amalgamating into a positive experience”. Christy Walker, the Master of Ceremony, was supported by the contest chairs, Sherin Mohamed, Stella B Sabangan, Alaa Afify and Leo Ortega and the timing team.At the prize distribution ceremony, trophies and prizes were given away by Dr P Anand, acting general manager, Teyseer Motors; Seema Mobin, technical director, Gulf Lights; Elizabeth Szewczyk and Malini Sahni, English faculty members; Pattnaik and Farid.There was a lucky draw for all attendees followed by a dinner.
