With greenery and facilities the new parks will ensure social, environmental and recreational benefits to the public
In a move aimed at providing more space for residents to spend leisure time and engage in exercises, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started construction of two new public parks and development of an existing one.
The new parks will be built at Al Gharrafa and Umm Al Saneem while the Rawdat al-Khail Park (Al Muntaza Park) is to be developed, according to a statement issued by the authority Sunday.

Engineer Abdulhakeem al-Hashemi, head of Public Projects section at Ashghal, said the new step has been taken considering the increasing need for more public parks.“The existing public parks network is inadequate to meet the needs due to the growth in Qatar population. This has demanded action from Ashghal,” he said.Al- Hashemi explained that the designs of these parks ensure social, environmental and recreational benefits to the public. "The charming design will also attract visitors and tourists to these areas because of the large spaces allocated for green arena. Hundreds of trees will be planted while the green building concept will be followed in order to ensure environmental protection.”
The design includes lanes for joggers and cyclists. And the park will have sports equipment and play areas for children of all ages including children with special needs.

It occupies a vast area of 140,000 sqm covering many facilities for the needs of visitors of all ages with a distinct green environment. The features include green arena on 105,000 sqm with 1,250 trees, 1,300 metre-long pedestrian and bicycle paths and 401 car parking slots.Located on Hayr al-Zahra Street and Waab Lebarg Street in Umm al-Seneem on an area of ??about 130,000 sqm, the Umm Al Seneem Park includes many facilities for visitors of all ages with a distinct green environment. The features include 102,000sq m green arena, 740 trees, 1,200m of pedestrian and bicycle lanes and 378 car parking slots.Al Gharafa Park, located on Umm Al Zuber Street in Al Gharrafa and to be constructed on an area of ??about 50, 000sqm will have many facilities for visitors of all ages as well as a distinct green environment. The features include green arena of 36,000sq m, 307 trees, 650m-long pedestrian and bicycle lanes and 208 car parking lots.Each park includes two children's play areas where the new design enhances the physical and mental wellbeing of children by providing equipment for two different age groups of 2-5 years and 6-12 years.
