CNA-Q students win top prize in engineering contest

Two Engineering students from the College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) beat out several top Canadian schools to capture first place in the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) National Research/Technology Report Contest.Adnan Faroque and Faisal al-Mulla, from the Mechanical Engineering Technology programme, won first prize for the design, testing, and fabrication of brass nozzles for Ultimaker 3 3D printers for mass production.Finishing in the top five from CNA-Q was the student Saba Afreen, with her idea for a Solar Carport.“We are extremely proud of our students,” CNA-Q President Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa said.“This victory shows that CNA-Q students are not only receiving excellent instruction, but that they are ready to compete in an increasing competitive global market,” al-Khalifa added.Established in 1982, the CTAB is a standing committee of The Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT). The board is charged with developing, co-ordinating and managing the national accreditation programme for applied science and engineering technology programmes.“Each year CTAB holds a National Applied Research/Technology Report Contest for students from CTAB accredited programmes. The quality of reports submitted certainly reflect the quality education the students are being exposed to,” Chair, CTAB, Candace Scott said.“CNA-Q students were among some of the top submittals for the past two years, and CTAB is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2018 National Applied Research/Technology Report Contest was from College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q). Congratulations to this year’s winners Adnan Faroque and Faisal al-Mulla,” Scott added.
