Ashghal to launch third phase of Ta’heel

After evoking a good response in its first two phases, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is set to launch the third phase of the ‘Qualification of Small-Scale Qatari Contractors’ (Ta’heel) initiative. Ashghal announced yesterday in a statement that four contracts for road improvement projects at a total value of about QR100mn will be signed during October as part of the third phase.  The initiative is aimed at helping Qatari companies participate in development projects including building construction, grading works, road pavement, drainage facility, construction of pedestrian lanes and works to enhance traffic safety. The initiative provides Qatari investors in the construction sector with the opportunity to implement small projects that qualify them to be a part of the country’s strategic projects in the future and contribute to the local economy.With the contract of the new four projects signed, the total number of signed projects has reached 12. In December 2018, Ashghal signed four contracts in the first phase of the initiative while four more were signed in April 2019 during the second phase. Ashghal is planning to close the tender for these projects in December 2019 and launch road improvement works in the first quarter of 2020. The first contract that will be tendered includes road improvement works in various areas within the geographical boundaries of Umm Slal, Al Daayen and Al Shamal Municipalities. The second contract includes road improvement works in areas within Doha Municipality while the third contract deals with the road improvement work within geographical boundaries of Al Wakrah Municipality and the fourth one covers road improvement works within Al Rayyan and Al Sheehaniya Municipalities.Local companies do not require previous experience in road construction or maintenance. To get qualified, they need to complete the registration process through Ashghal’s website and meet certain prescribed requirements in terms of quality.
