5,800 students attend summer camps of education ministry

The third edition of the summer camp by the  Ministry of Education and Higher Education continues to evoke good response from students. And a total of 5,800 students are part of the camp at 14 centres, the official website of the ministry said yesterday. The camp that started on July 14 will come to an end on August 8 and it’s held as part of Qatar’s efforts to help student community take benefit from summer vacation by becoming part of useful activities. Besides, the camp is also aimed at ensuring the participation of students in helping the country achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.  According to Fatima Yousef al-Obaidli, head of Programmes and Activities at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said these students benefited from the activities offered at various summer centres. The latest edition is organised by the ministry in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Ebttikar Technology and Mada – Assistive Technology Centre and it marks training sessions by trainers and field experts. And the camp is on at 14 selected summer centres across Qatar. The activities mainly focus on five areas: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts and skills. A number of workshops that help participants develop skills and passion towards research are held as part of the camp. Sports activities included training in basketball, handball, badminton and judo. Besides, students participated in workshops in arts and design, pottery, decorating baskets, making hoops, making dolls, fashion designing and abaya designing. Cooking workshops taught students to prepare healthy meals as also food presentation. These are in addition to workshops in skin care, cinematography and journalism. Out of the total 14 centres, seven are for boys while girls are taking part in the camp in seven centres.
