Temporary traffic shift at Makkah Al Mukarramah Interchange

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary traffic diversion at Makkah Al Mukarramh Interchange from tomorrow and from August 2 in two phases. The diversion has been announced in order to allow the opening of the new bridge at Al Luqta and accelerate the completion of the second phase of the remaining works of Makkah Al Mukarramah Interchange and service road.As per the plan, Ashghal will upgrade the old roundabout connecting Makkah Street and Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor into two levels interchange. The new junction will include one new bridge and signalised junction under the bridge. From Al Gharrafa towards Al Rayyan and Al Waab: During the first phase of diversion, vehicles coming from Al Gharrafa towards Al Rayyan will be diverted from Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor to the bridge. The signalised junction will remain open to those coming from Makkah Street in the direction of Al Rayyan. From Al Waab and Al Rayyan towards Al Gharrafa: The second phase will be on August when traffic will be shifted temporarily on the bridge, under the bridge on service roads. Those coming from Al Rayyan and Al Waab area towards Al Gharrafa North can make use of the bridge. Road users heading from Makkah Street towards Al Gharrafa North have been asked to turn right on a service road from Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor. Vehicles heading from Makkah Street towards Al Rayyan and Al Waab south can proceed under the new bridge and turn left on a service road adjacent to the bridge. Road users coming from Makkah Street can use the new U-turn under the bridge and turn to the same street. Traffic coming from Al Rayyan and Al Waab South towards Makkah Street East can make use the service road heading to the right.
