Eight killed after bus flips on Philippines expressway

Eight people were killed and eight others were injuredwhen a bus flipped on an expressway in the Philippines during heavyrain, police said Saturday. The bus was travelling along the North Luzon Expressway near the exitto the Manila suburban city of Valenzuela on Friday evening when ithit another vehicle, crossed to the other side of the road andflipped over. "There was heavy rain and the bus driver said there was zerovisibility at the time of the accident," said Valenzuela police chiefCarlito Gaces.The bus was carrying more than 30 passengers at the time of thecrash, he added. Transport authorities have suspended the company that operates thebus while they investigate the accident, which worsened rush-hourtraffic along the busy expressway on Friday night.More than 10,000 people die annually in road crashes in thePhilippines, according to road safety activists.
