Qatar University (QU) College of Medicine has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sidra Medicine for training the next generation of healthcare professionals. QU will be responsible for the delivery of an undergraduate physician training programme, leading to the award of the degree of medical doctor. This educational programme requires structured experimental training at approved healthcare delivery organisations. Sidra Medicine will then recruit the qualified doctors according to their standards and provide them with the privileges to practise. Present at the signing were vice president for Medical and Health Sciences and dean of the College of Medicine at QU Dr Egon Toft and chief executive officer of Sidra Medicine, Prof Robert K Crone. “Through QU programmes, we are cultivating the future leaders of the healthcare sector. We are grateful for the co-operation of Sidra Medicine in sharing our vision for excellence in inter-professional health education and interdisciplinary health research. By co-ordinating with health entities in Qatar, we are allowing our students the opportunity to thrive,” Dr Toft commented.“Sidra Medicine is a member of the healthcare community here in Qatar Foundation, to support not only world-class care for its patients but also to be a platform for medical education both for students from Qatar University as well as Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar. We see the capacity building associated with training young physicians, pharmacists and health professionals as being a key component of the mission of Sidra Medicine. We look forward to working with Qatar University to insure that we train the next generation of healthcare professionals,” Prof Crone added.
