Embassies team up for the love of sport

Senior officials from across the globe have come together in celebration of the largest ever sporting event to be held in the Middle East, the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.Delegates from embassies throughout Europe, Africa, the USA and Asia were welcomed to Ritz-Carlton hotel, offering a glimpse of the excitement that is set to turn Doha in an athletics epicentre when 3,500 athletes, officials and coaches head to Doha for the ten-day Championships at the end of September.Guests were welcomed by Vice President of International Association of Athletics Federations, Dahlan al-Hamad, who set the tone with an inspiring video showcasing the action-packed schedule that the Championships will bring to fans of all cultures and communities.As figureheads for their communities across Qatar, the embassies shared their experiences of sport, uniting in a love for athletics and how they can help bring families and friends from their countries to play a part in the World Athletics Championships, which will see athletes competing from 213 countries, in what will be the first ever time that the World Athletics Championships has been held in the Middle East.Speaking on the gathering, al-Hamad, commented: “The competition might be taking place in Qatar, but we intend it to be a celebration for the whole world, a partnership with peoples of the region and a chance for expats who call Qatar home to see their fellow countrymen and women compete at the grandest stage.“To establish that bridge to the world, we will be glad to work with embassies and the diplomatic corps to bring us closer to the world and forge the connections that we aim for in order to turn this event into a memorable universal experience that fans reflect on over the years.”Earlier this month, the Khalifa International Stadium hosted the Asian Athletics Championships and the IAAF Diamond League meeting where fans of all nationalities gathered to cheer on their favourite athletes and bring an extra energy to the competition.Fans can buy tickets online now to ensure that they don’t miss out on any of the action which gets underway from Saturday, September 28 and will finish on Sunday, October 6.
