Australian race horse Winx retires after record 33rd straight win

Australian racehorse Winx retired on Saturday afterwinning her final race in Sydney, a record 33rd in a row.  Winx won her third-consecutive Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000metres, beating Kluger and Hartnell in the 4-million-dollar (2.8million US dollars) race in front of some 40,000 people at Sydney'ssold-out Randwick Racecourse.The 7-year-old mare, which also holds a world record for winning 25Group One races, retires on Saturday as one of the greatest-ever racehorses. "It's over, isn't it?" Winx's jockey, Hugh Bowman, said after therace. "It has been very surreal for me all day with the amount ofpeople here, it is just amazing.""Everyone watching around the world... This horse has captured thehearts of a lot of people around the globe. There is really nothingmore for me to say."Until the 1500-metre mark, Winx was in sixth place in the nine-horsefield and made the last run within the next 400 metres.Winx has also won the Cox Plate, Australia's weight-for-agechampionship, a record four times.In total, Winx won 37 races from 43 starts during her career andearned a record 26.3 million dollars.  Earlier this week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Winx epitomisedthe popular Australian slogan - "a fair go.""[The horse and its owners] to me epitomise that 'fair go for thosewho have a go' and I think that's the story of Winx," Morrison toldreporters on Sunday.
