Three injured in Israeli airstrike in Hama

An Israeli airstrike on a military base in Syria'sHama province early Saturday injured three people, Syrian state mediareported.  State news agency SANA, citing a military source, said the dawnattack was carried out by Israeli jets using Lebanese airspace,adding that air defences managed to down some Israeli rockets beforethey reached their intended targets in the city of Masyaf.  The attack wounded three fighters and caused material damage, SANAadded.The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, meanwhile saidthat at least 17 fighters from government forces and their allieswere wounded in the attack on an area in the western countryside ofHama. It added that the targets included a site for developing medium rangerockets.Activists in the area said members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guardand their allies, who have been fighting alongside the forces ofSyrian President Bashar al-Assad since 2011, were posted at the base.Israel had previously said it will not tolerate Iran seeking toestablish permanent military bases in Syria.A source close to the Syrian government told dpa that the target thatwas hit was a military school and a military training camp in Hama.Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump declared Iran's IslamicRevolutionary Guard Corps a foreign terrorist organization, markingthe first time the US has used the designation against a part ofanother government.Israel usually does not comment on the strikes it is alleged to havecarried out in Syria.Syrian and Iranian military facilities in the wartorn country havebeen hit several times by similar strikes in the past few months.
