Temporary diversion on part of Al Gharrafa Interchange Roundabout

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary diversion on part of the Al Gharrafa Interchange Roundabout (known as Immigration Roundabout) in two phases, starting tomorrow. The diversion will be carried out with the aim of allowing the installation of a new signal-controlled intersection at Al Gharrafa Roundabout, which will contribute to enhancing traffic movement and increase intersection capacity, Ashghal has said in a statement. The diversion will be implemented in co-ordination the General Directorate of Traffic. Diversion 1: from tomorrow until March 24, a part of Al Gharrafa Interchange Roundabout will be closed to traffic – coming from Al Luqta Street towards 22 February Street and Khalifa Street. Motorists coming from Al Luqta Street and wishing to turn right onto 22 February Street and Al Amir Street have been advised to use the new temporary exit through Souk Al Ali. Those wishing to reach Khalifa Street should use the Al Gharrafa Interchange underpass. Drivers heading to Al Shamal Road via the roundabout have been advised to make a right turn through the temporary exit on 22 February Street and continue straight reaching the Al Rayyan interchange to make a U-turn onto Al Shamal Road. Motorists wishing to access the Gharrafa interchange should use alternative routes via Al Amir Street using the Omer Bin Alkhatab underpass and return to Al Amir Street and back to Al Gharrafa Interchange. Diversion 2: from March 21 to March 31, part of the Al Gharrafa Interchange Roundabout will also be closed to traffic coming from Al Shamal Road towards Doha, Khalifa Street and Al Luqta Street. Drivers wishing to use Al Gharrafa Interchange to reach Khalifa Street or to make a U-turn will have to continue south through the Al Gharrafa Interchange flyover towards Al Rayyan Interchange and then make a U-turn onto Al Shamal Road.Drivers coming from Al Shamal Road wishing to take a right turn onto Al Luqta Street to join Jassim bin Thani Street or Abroug Street and then follow the road signs to reach Al Luqta Street and surrounding facilities such as the General Directorate of Passports (Immigration offices). Traffic exiting the Immigration directorate offices to join Al Luqta Street through Abroug Street should take a left turn onto Abdul Rahman Bin Awf Street to Al Luqta Street. Ashghal will install road signs advising motorists of the diversion. It has also requested all road users to abide by the speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
