Roadshow held to promote Terry Towel Global Expo

A roadshow has been held in Doha to promote the Vibrant Terry Towel Global Expo and Summit 2019 (VTT GES 2019), which will be held in Solapur, India, later this year. Indian ambassador to Qatar P Kumaran was the chief guest at the roadshow, titled Vibrant Terry Towel 2019.The Textile Development Foundation, a leading not-for-profit association, works for hundreds of small decentralised terry towel and textile units located in Solapur, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. In association with Global Network, an international trade advisory firm based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, it organised the roadshow in Doha in collaboration with the Indian Business & Professional Council (IBPC), Qatar, which was attended by around 50 people from the sector.The roadshow was held to promote and highlight the salient features of VTT GES 2019, which will be a “first-of-its-kind” event focused on the towel industry in India, according to a press statement issued in Doha by the Indian embassy. The event, scheduled to be held in Solapur from September 25 to 27, will bring customers, towel manufacturers, importers, exporters, technologists and traders together on a common platform to discuss, share, debate and celebrate the best practices of the towels industry, the statement notes. VTT GES 2019 will be “one of the key commercial milestones of the year with 100 Solapur-based towel companies as exhibitors and several other booths earmarked for yarn manufacturing, machinery, textile dyes & chemicals”, it adds.Kumaran, who spoke at the event, presented some pertinent facts on trade between Qatar and India. Exports from India to Qatar increased by more than 80% in 2017-18 and were expected to rise further in 2018-2019. He also laid strong emphasis on the key factors that are driving India as a business and investment destination, along with the opportunities emerging in Qatar. He added that the textile sector of India is the second biggest employer after the agriculture sector. Azim Abbas, president of IBPC in Qatar, welcomed the promoters of VTT GES 2019 from India and conveyed IBPC’s “wholehearted support” to Vibrant Terry Towel 2019.Anmol Modi, senior head-Promotions of Vibrant Terry Towel 2019, highlighted some facts on the home textile sector globally and the Indian performance in this sector. He mentioned the strength of the textile cluster of Solapur and its success in gaining Geographical Indication status for Solapur Jacquered Towel and Solapur Chaddar (blanket). An invitation was extended to the attendees with details on the benefits for visiting Vibrant Terry Towel Global Expo & Summit 2019.
