Dreama organises training workshop for employees

The Orphan Care Center, Dreama, organised the second training workshop for department managers and social service and care providers.Held under the title: “Mechanism of the Work of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child,” the five-day event was in collaboration with the Geneva Institute for Human Rights. Dr Nizar Abdulqadir and Dr Kholoud al-Khateeb delivered the workshop. The objective was to enable and promote the capabilities of Dreama’s staff with regard to drafting reports to the committee on the rights of the child and identify the role of the non-government organisations (NGOs) in respect of submitting reports and providing information which have to be part of the key unified document, shed light on some issues raised by the committee on the rights of the child for Qatar’s former reports, in addition to sharing expertise with the organisations related to the rights of the child, and raise the participants’ awareness on the experiences of the NGOs which submitted its reports to the committee on the rights of the child. The training workshop addressed the rights of the child from several pivots including the international conventions, organisations established in line with the conventions, signing and approving Qatar’s joining of the key conventions of human rights, focus on the directive principles recognised by the committee on the rights of the child and relying on these agreements in drafting reports and shedding light on the information which should be part of the content of the report to be submitted to the committee on the rights of the child. Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad, executive director of Dreama, noted that “the workshop comes as part of our continuous efforts to promote services offered to the orphan child in the framework of co-operation with the Geneva Institute for Human Rights.” Dr Abdulqadir, executive director of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights, pointed out the importance of the workshop in introducing the international conventions for human rights, to which Qatar has joined, and praised Dreama’s commitment to promote and protect the rights of the child through certain measures necessary for enhancing the level of the services and care provided to children. He also pointed out the role of the institute in strengthening the principles of the ideal use of the international mechanisms of the rights of the child.Dr al-Khateeb stressed the importance of the training course in promoting the efficiency of the Dreama staff, training the service and care providers on the rights of orphan children, and spreading awareness on the rights of the orphan child who is deprived of a domestic environment and the fostering families. The workshop featured a number of practical and collective exercises which contributed to enhancing the principles of the rights of the child at the international level, and how to link these measures with the standards of the work within Dreama and the service and care providers in particular.Dreama organised the first workshop in January this year under the title “Providing technical support and developing capabilities of the Dreama Center in the field of the Rights of the Orphan Child and Fostering Families”.
