Suicide attack kills 11 in Nigeria

Eleven people were dead on Saturday after two suicidebombers and a gunman attacked a mosque in the north-eastern Nigeriancity of Maiduguri, a police official said.  Damian Chukwu, Borno state police commissioner, said in a statementthat it is believed the attackers were from the Islamist extremistgroup Boko Haram. They infiltrated the mosque, in Kushari village onthe outskirts of the city, shooting sporadically before the bombersdetonated explosives they were wearing.Along with eight victims, all three attackers died. Another 15sustained injuries.The incident comes four days after the convoy of the stategovernor, Kashim Shettima, was attacked by Boko Haram fighters.Three people were confirmed dead in that incident.Boko Haram, which in 2009 launched an insurgency to impose strictIslamic rule in parts of Nigeria, conducts much of its activity inBorno state. Thousands of people have been killed while about 2million others have been displaced by the insurgency.
