His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani sent yesterday a cable of condolences to the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah on the death of Sheikha Bazza Mohamed al-Ali al-Malek al-Sabah. Separately, His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also sent cables of condolences to the Amir of Kuwait on the death of Sheikha Bazza Mohamed al-Ali al-Malek al-Sabah.Qatar participates in meeting of Arab health ministersQatar participated yesterday in a joint meeting of Arab ministers of social affairs and health in Cairo, with a delegation headed by ambassador Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz al-Sahlawi, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Arab League.The meeting discussed the development of an Arab strategy to promote the rights of older persons in the Arab countries and ensure decent living for them in recognition of their role in Arab societies.It will also discuss all social, health, legal and developmental aspects related to older persons.The meeting will also discuss a number of resolutions of the Arab summits related to supporting the social, health and humanitarian conditions in the Arab countries that are facing challenges and difficulties and witnessing waves of displacement.Ministry honours winners of Qur’an competitionThe Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs honoured yesterday the winners of the Sheikh Jassim Bin Muhammad Al-Thani Qur’an Competition, with HE the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari attending.The first place went to Ama Al Rahman Abdulraheem in the citizens category for memorising the entire Qur’an. Islam Mohamed Ali won the first place. First prize is worth QR100,000. The second and third places are awarded QR85,000 and QR70,000. Head of the organising committee, Nasser Youssef al-Sulaiti, said that honouring those who memorise the Qur’an reflects the commitment of the wise leadership in serving the book of Allah. He noted that all 5,000 participants in this year’s different categories were honoured. He announced that the 2019 edition of the top memorisers will initially see 45 people participating from 22 countries, with the winner earning QR1mn.
