Arab Children’s Day observed at Dreama

The Orphans Care Centre – Dreama has observed Arab Children’s Day under the slogan ‘Qatar’s children welcome Arab children’ and hashtag #We_live_our_childhood.Arab Children’s Day coincides with the anniversary of the martyrdom of the child, Mohamed Durra. On the occasion, a number of activities and workshops are held annually to reflect the cultures of the Arab world in order to familiarise the community with the cultures of other Arab peoples, bring viewpoints closer, strengthen the bonds of co-existence and understanding with children of the world and highlight the importance of unity and cohesion of Arab people.Dreama concluded its observance of the 2018 Arab Children’s Day, which falls on October 1 every year, at Mall of Qatar with the participation of Qatar Foundation for Social Work and its centres - Aman, Wifaq, Shafallah Centre and Best Buddies.The activities created a pleasant atmosphere and the Dreama children were keen to participate. The highlights included the display of a big map of the Arab world in different colours, while children also used a model representing their childhood and wrote their wishes for the future on the ‘tree of wishes’.Shafallah Centre participated in the event by displaying a painting made by its children, which was appreciated by the audience. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad, executive director of Dreama, said, “Observing this day contributes to the definition of Arab identity and culture on the one hand and promotes awareness of the protection of children’s rights on the other. Also, it places great emphasis on the efforts made to integrate orphans into society and instil social solidarity. “Arab Children’s Day is an opportunity to identify the achievements of children as an integral part of human rights and as an investment in the present and future.“The progress achieved by Qatar Foundation for Social Work Centres in Qatar, including Dreama, is a building block to meet the challenges posed by the reality of children in a number of Arab countries and also highlights the commitment of the centre to discuss and develop plans to improve the reality of children in all aspects.”Noor al-Mohannadi, manager of the Social Awareness Bureau at Dreama, added, “We are keen to participate in various activities of a social nature, with the aim of introducing society to and raising awareness on the protection of children’s rights), as well as encouraging interaction between Dreama’s children and peers through activities to integrate them in society and ensure their full and active participation in social and cultural life.”
