Firefighter dies battling northern California blaze

A firefighter has died while battling an enormous wildfire in northern California, authorities said late on Monday.The firefighter, who was not named, died as crews fought the so-called Mendocino Complex fire, fire authority CalFire tweeted.The Mendocino Complex, which is a combination of the so-called Ranch and River fires, is the largest fire in California's history. It has grown to a size of 336,399 acres (approximately 1,361 square kilometres) and is not expected to be contained until at least September 1. High temperatures, dry conditions and strong winds caused the fires, with the complex now burning about 160 kilometres north of San Francisco.Almost 4,000 firefighters, including international crews, are battling the fire.
