A small plane flew under a footbridge and made a spectacular emergency landing on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive roadway on Friday, according to local officials.
The pilot issued a mayday call telling air traffic controllers that his plane's engine had partially lost power and that he was unable to make it to an airport. He was then directed to land on the major road that follows the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Eyewitnesses told reporters the plane flew under a pedestrian footbridge before it landed amid heavy traffic on the road's southbound lane.Chicago police said the pilot and his passenger were uninjured and the plane was not damaged. The plane was cleared and the drive was reopened to traffic.
