Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) is taking part in the IAPH Baku 2018 World Ports Conference at Azerbaijani’s capital Baku under the theme ‘Ports of future – building hubs, accelerating connectivity’.    The conference, which is one of world’s largest gathering of shipping experts, port managers and top managers of major international maritime institutions, will discuss over four days the mainstream developments in the port industry including, multimodal transportation and containerisation of world terrestrial and maritime trade; the synergy between ports and free trade zones; and the implications of major global transport initiatives such as “One Belt, One Road”, the Baku-Axalkalaki-Kars railroad and the North-South transport corridor on global economic growth.  Mwani Qatar’s delegation to the conference held several meetings with a number of VIPs and officials of international ports, shipping and logistics companies. During the meetings, issues of mutual interest, latest developments in the field of ports and logistics sector were discussed. Partnerships and possible areas of co-operation were explored too.The delegation highlighted activities and role played by Mwani Qatar in the development of the maritime transport sector in the region and its strategy to transform Qatar into a vibrant regional trading centre by investing in modern technology and adopting best practices in its operations in Hamad Port, the Middle East’s newest and largest port.The World Ports Conference is an annual event organised by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH). Mwani Qatar recently announced that it has officially joined the IAPH as a member. The IAPH represents some 180 ports and some 140 port-related businesses in 90 countries. The member ports together handle well over 60% of the world’s sea-borne trade and nearly 80% of the world container traffic. This year’s event brought together more than 400 representatives of international ports, business communities, shipping and logistics companies from more than 65 countries including the US, Russia, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Germany, France, and Spain.
