Amiri Maintenance Corps won the armed forces’ HH Commander-in-Chief Cup in football after beating Amiri Air Force 3-1 in the final match that was played at Al Gharafa Sports Club’s Thani bin Jassim Stadium on Tuesday under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs HE Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah.HE the Chief of Staff Major General (Pilot) Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim crowned Amiri Maintenance Corps with their first-ever tournament title and handed gold medals to their players, while Amiri Air Force were given the silver medals.Major General Eng. Youssef Ahmad al-Mannai, commander of the Amiri Maintenance Corps, received the championship trophy from HE the Chief of Staff in the presence of Military Sports Association president Brigadier Youssef Dasmal al-Kuwari, and a large number of military unit commanders, officers and non-commissioned officers.Amiri Maintenance Corps opened the scoring in the 36th minute and ended the first half 1-0 on top, before Amiri Air Force pulled one back in the second half in the 65th minute.Amiri Maintenance Corps added a second goal in the 87th minute and wrapped up the win with a third in the last minute of added time to secure the title.Brigadier al-Kuwari said there is no loser, noting that the final match was excellent in terms of performance as both teams showed competitiveness throughout the match. He added that the competition has been strong during the season, making Amiri Maintenance Corps worthy winners of the title.
