Ankara floods sweep away more than 100 cars

Heavy rains and storms have caused serious damage to the Turkish capital Ankara, especially the suburban district of Mamak.A flash flood washed away more than 100 cars in the district on Saturday, Dogan news agency reported.Several people were injured in the flooding, and many shops were damaged, the report said. Images showed that the force of the flood had torn the tarmac off roads in places.Residents and the authorities began the clear-up operation on Sunday.The Meteorological Institute in Ankara has forecast more rains for the coming days.The institute also forecast powerful storms and rains potentially leading to flash floods in the metropolis of Istanbul and the coastal city of Izmir.
