Al-Rumaihi rides Bolandro to sizzling victory in Hathab

Qatari rider Mubarak Yousuf al-Rumaihi and 12-year-old bay Bolandro set a jaw-dropping pace, to clinch the Big Tour class on the penultimate day of the 12th and the final leg of the Hathab national equestrian series.At the indoor arena of Al Shaqab yesterday, the pair nailed the feature class event, finishing a whopping 6.03 seconds ahead of their closest rival in the field. The winning time was 67.61secs as al-Rumaihi and Bolandro flew around the course. Nasser al-Ghazali was second astride Quel Homme, the pair coming home in 73.64 secs. The combination of Hamad Nasser al-Qadi and SIEC Lonnie, which had finished second on Thursday, had to settle for third spot this time after picking up a four second penalty for a fault. They had completed their round in 70.62 secs. Meanwhile, Ahmed Mohamed al-Badi emerged triumphant in the Medium Tour class. Al-Badi guided his 16-year-old gelding Latino 291to victory in 69.48 seconds. The pair combined to put in a brilliant round, leaping and dancing around the arena, making the tough course look easy. Mohamed Said Haidan set a blistering pace too, putting in another brilliant clear with10-year-old stallion Damorano. But they fell agonisingly short of time set by al-Badi and Latino 291, and had to settle for second place with a time of 69.95secs. In third was, Mohamed Khalifa Albaker with 16-year-old gelding Carport in 72.41secs. The Future Rides series, which has attracted lots of promising and talented young riders, was also held yesterday. In the 85/100cm class, Tamim Nasser al-Qadi astride GK Aqueena emerged on top. The second place went to Abdulrahman Eisa al-Bukhari on Funny Thing, while the third spot was grabbed by Abdulaziz Majid al-Ghanim on Zunoflaire. In the Future Riders 70/85cm class, Abdullah Khalid al-Bukhari took the victory with Frosty Brian Boru. Sultan Salem al-Naimi (Corallo) and Sheikh Khalid bin Ali al-Thani (Sita) finished second and third respectively. The final round of three-day Hathab series will conclude today.
