Schwarber and Happ lead Cubs to victory over Indians

Kyle Schwarber hit two solo home runs, Ian Happ homered and had three hits and Tyler Chatwood allowed a run and scattered four hits in six-plus innings as the Chicago Cubs rolled past the host Cleveland Indians 10-3 on Tuesday in the teams’ first meeting in Cleveland since the epic 2016 World Series.Chatwood (1-3) struck out five and walked five. Josh Tomlin (0-3) took the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. Four of the hits he allowed were home runs. Tomlin struck out three and didn’t issue a walk.The Cubs pounded out 15 hits, and Happ and Tommy La Stella joined Schwarber in driving in two runs.All nine batters who started the game for the Cubs had hits. Cleveland managed nine hits off four Chicago pitchers, with Jose Ramirez and Bradley Zimmer collecting three hits each.Yankees 8, Twins 3Didi Gregorius continued his torrid start with a two-run homer among three hits and drove in three runs to give him an major-league-best 27 RBIs as New York beat visiting Minnesota. Joey Votto walked to open the inning before Gennett’s second homer, giving the Reds their second straight win even though they blew a four-run lead in the ninth inning. Joey Votto also went deep for the Reds. Freddie Freeman homered twice and Kurt Suzuki also hit a home run for Atlanta.Diamondbacks 8, Phillies 4Alex Avila had a homer, two singles and two RBIs, and Jarrod Dyson and Daniel Descalso also homered in Arizona’s victory at Philadelphia. Avila and Dyson hit back-to-back homers in the second inning for a 2-0 lead, and Descalso hit a two-run homer to cap a three-run eighth inning as the Diamondbacks (16-6) tied the franchise record for best 22-game start. A’s 3, Rangers 2Andrew Triggs pitched six strong innings, and Mark Canha homered to lead surging Oakland to a victory at Texas. Triggs (2-0) allowed one run on four hits and struck out six with one walk for the A’s, who have won four in a row and eight of their past nine.
