Minister visits exhibition in South Carolina

HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani yesterday visited, in Charleston, South Carolina, the second edition of the exhibition accompanying the ongoing economic roadshow in the US. The minister, accompanied by Mohamed Barakat, executive director of the US-Qatar Business Council, toured various sections of the exhibition, which was inaugurated yesterday. He was briefed on the various pavilions and entities taking part in the exhibition, including the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Doha Film Institute and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, among others. In addition, some US companies that have key projects in Qatar are also taking part in the event, Occidental Petroleum, Boeing, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips.The minister stressed that the event plays an important role in enhancing communication with the local communities in the American cities covered by the roadshow. He explained that the exhibition sheds light on the history of Qatar and its heritage and culture, in addition to introducing the country’s capabilities and economic competitiveness in the region, besides promoting Qatar as a safe and reliable investment destination, according to a statement by the MEC. “This exhibition embodies Qatar’s keenness to establish economic and investment partnership with the US, as it is a part of the economic roadshow visiting four US cities in its first phase - Miami, Washington, DC, Charleston and Raleigh,” he said on the sidelines of the event. The exhibition aims to highlight Qatari culture and heritage and the economic strength of Qatar, particularly in terms of major development projects to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 and  projects related to Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.  The first edition of the exhibition was organised at Miami, Florida, while the third will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina.
