Doha conference to discuss anti-terrorism measures

A total of 300 experts in the security field in Qatar and abroad will take part in the seventh conference of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA). 

The main theme of the conference this year will be "New Trends in Combating Terrorism and Extremism." The three-day event aims at exchanging expertise and gaining knowledge of the best international practices in facing terrorism and in halting the spread of extremism.Director-General of the Police College Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah al-Muhana al-Marri stressed the importance of holding an international conference to discuss the region's and the world's urgent issues.He added that terrorism was a real threat that must be dealt with scientifically, and based on the expert opinions of specialists in security, legal and other fields.He added that this year's theme was chosen due to the threat terrorism poses on the entire world, and due to the need for cooperation to deal with it.He noted that Qatar was one of the leading countries in fighting terrorism. I was one of the first countries to adopt a law for tackling terrorist acts and extremism.He said the conference was a great platform for exchanging ideas on counter-terrorism methods.Al-Marri noted that 42 countries will be represented in the conference, in addition to international organisations in the security field.He added that it was also an opportunity to improve ties with INTERPA members, which would mean having access to a comprehensive database to the most effective counter-terrorism practices.
