Hassad raises poultry, vegetable output

Hassad,Qatar’s premier investor in the food and agribusiness sectors, hasannounced an increase in production lines in its poultry, vegetables andfodder sectors to support the country’s food security efforts. Thisannouncement came on the sidelines of Qatar International AgriculturalExhibition 2018 (AgriteQ), organised by the Ministry of Municipality andEnvironment at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. Mohamed binBadr al-Sadah, Hassad Food CEO, said: “We aim to support the country’sfood security efforts by expanding our local and internationalinvestments. We conducted an in-depth research on the local market needsfrom the three sectors, developed suitable plans and startedimplementing them to support in satisfying those needs.“For thefodder sector, we increased the cultivated land in Hassad’s fodder farmsto increase production up to 10,000 tonnes annually, as well asintroducing new products such as ‘Alfa Alfa’.” In a statementyesterday, Hassad stressed that it has played a “major role in meetingthe local market needs of fodder products at the beginning of theongoing blockade”. The company had immediately provided fodder productsto a number of poultry and livestock farms to ensure the continuity oflocal production of milk and poultry, it noted.Regarding the poultrysector, the Hassad CEO said: “Production of the Arab Qatari Company forPoultry Production (Al-Waha) will reach around 16mn chicken and 120mntable eggs annually. As for vegetables, Hassad has increased thecultivated land since the beginning of the blockade to reach 8,000tonnes of vegetables per year.”During AgriteQ, Hassad’s stand isshowcasing a diverse set of high-quality items, produced by several ofits subsidiaries – Arab Qatari Company for Agriculture Production isdisplaying fresh vegetables, Arab Qatari Company for Poultry Production(Al-Waha) is showcasing poultry products, Hassad Australia is displayingchilled livestock, while Aalaf Qatar is showcasinge high-quality fodderproducts.Premium dates, basmati rice and olive oil are on display by Nafco.Hassad’sstand also includes a majlis where free consultation is being providedon different topics related to the food sector. Besides, the standfeatures several educational activities for children of different agegroups and other experiences for the exhibition visitors. Hassad hasdiverse investments in Qatar, Australia and Oman with potential futureinvestments in several other locations. Through its varioussubsidiaries, the company produces livestock, grains, fodder, poultryproducts, vegetables, rice, dates and other products.
