QU-CED organises secondles son study project forum

TheNational Center for Educational Development (NCED) at Qatar UniversityCollege of Education (QU-CED) held the second Lesson Study Project Forumrecently, to highlight the progress and accomplishments of the projectduring the past four years. The event was organised in collaborationwith the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and sponsored byMarubeni Corporation. It is part of the ongoing collaboration betweenCED and Tokyo Gakugei University.Attendees included QU chiefstrategy and development officer Dr Darwish al-Emadi, CED dean Dr Ahmedal-Emadi, ambassador of Japan Seiichi Otsuka, NCED director Dr Abdullah MAbu-Tineh, researcher at Tokyo Gakugei University and IMPULS projectmanager Dr Akihiko Takahashi, and representatives of the Ministry ofEducation and Higher Education and Marubeni, as well as school teachersand CED faculty.The event’s presentation focused on emphasising theprocess of the ‘Lesson Study’ project in the classroom. Ruba al-Said,second grade teacher at Al Markhiya Primary School, and Hana al-Ashwal,CED professional development specialist, displayed a model lesson andpractices involving classroom students. Following the lesson, Anbaraal-Abdullah facilitated a panel discussion on the lesson progress andstudents involvement led by Dr Takahashi.Dr al-Emadi said, “Throughhosting the second Lesson Study Project Forum, CED demonstrates itscommitment to make a positive impact on the performance of educators inQatar through various professional development opportunities andresearch projects designed to inspire teachers to reach their greatestpotential as highly competent educators.”Otsuka extended his thanksand appreciation to all parties involved in implementing the project andthe continuous support from QU, the Ministry of Education and HigherEducation, as well as Marubeni for their efforts. Otsuka referred in hisspeech to how difficult is learning mathematics in the traditionalways, as he remembers, yet visiting several schools and watching the‘Lesson Study’ project in practice, he was able to recognise the impactof the project on student involvement in the learning process.
