Justice minister to attend 3rd International Arbitration Conference in Doha

Qatar’s Justice Minister will attend the opening of the ‘3rd International Arbitration Conference’ Tuesday at the Ritz-Carlton Doha, the Qatar Chamber has announced in a statement.

The two-day event, organised by the Chamber’s Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (Qicca), carries the theme ‘Arbitration Between Qatari Law & International Conventions’ and will gather experts, law professors, and arbitrators representing 15 Arab and European countries. During the opening ceremony, HE the Minister of Justice Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr al-Mohannadi will be joined by Qatar Chamber and Qicca chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani; Qicca board member Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani, and founder and editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Arbitration, Dr Abdel Hamid el-Ahdab.

The conference is being held in parallel with the 60th anniversary of the promulgation of the New York Convention of 1958, the 15th anniversary of Qatar’s adhesion to the convention in 2003, and the first anniversary of the issuance of the Qatari Arbitration Law No 2 of 2017.The conference will highlight several topics relating to the world’s arbitration trends and developments. The first session will review the Qatari Arbitration Law and its impact on business environment, while the second session will highlight the lessons learned through the application of New York Convention, and the third session will discuss the modern trends of world arbitration rules.The fourth session will highlight mechanisms of disputes settlements in mega projects, while the fifth will review the arbitration in maritime disputes, and the final session will feature the role of expertise in arbitration and its importance in light of the Qatar’s Expertise Law.
