Traffic Week celebration kicks off at Darb Al Saai

HE the Director-General of Public Security Staff Major General Saad binJassim al-Khulaifi inaugurated the 34th Traffic Week celebrations atDarb Al Saai yesterday evening in the presence of a number of officersand departmental directors at the Ministry of Interior (MoI). The Traffic Week will continue until March 24, featuring a wide range ofawareness activities and involving the participation of ministries andinstitutions related to awareness and traffic in the country, the MoIhas said in a statement.The events will be held throughout the week in two shifts: morning from8am until 12noon, except on Friday, and evening from 4pm until 9pm.The associated events include a large number of activities that aredifferent from those held in previous years, the statement notes. Theseinclude traffic services provided by the Licensing Department at theGeneral Directorate of Traffic for participants of the events. Vehicle registration, renewal of driving licences, mobile technicalinspection of vehicles, training and driving test, as well as anexhibition of insurance companies and traffic competitions sponsored bydriving schools are among the activities.The traffic village and theatre will be open this morning and theTraffic Licensing Department will offer its services to the public fromthe morning as well. In the evening, there will be a seminar reviewing“The road safety strategy in Qatar until 2022”, along with activities ofthe Licensing Department and traffic-related competitions for thepublic.Tomorrow, the students’ theatre will offer a range of activities forvisiting school students and veteran drivers will also be honoured.There will be a debate titled “Driving without license - betweenacceptance and refusal”, with the participation of school students. Theevening events include a seminar on the “Role of family in trafficawareness”.A seminar will be held on “The role of schools in spreading trafficawareness” on Wednesday evening along with activities in the trafficvillage, as well as traffic competitions sponsored by driving schools.The activities on Wednesday will conclude with a poetry-reading event.An awareness lecture on the theme “Wrong traffic behaviour from anIslamic perspective” will be held on Thursday morning, in addition toactivities of the traffic village, the Licensing Department and thestudents’ theatre. A seminar on “Traffic information - between reality and hope” will be held in the evening.The events on Friday will start from 4pm. The week-long events will conclude on Saturday evening.The Traffic Week this year is witnessing the participation of a numberof ministries concerned, such as the Ministry of Education and HigherEducation, with a specially arranged school tent. There will beactivities to educate students at all levels, along with a specialchildren corner and interactive games for kids. There will be special areas for Souq Waqif while more than 60 entitieswill take part in the main exhibition held at Darb Al Saai. Lekhwiyawill demonstrate its skills in the external area of the venue, and therewill be shows pertaining to youth initiatives through some youth wingsand Qatar University.
