Kahramaa Conserving Building Contest opens

QatarGeneral Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) launched the sixthversion of ‘Conserving Building Competition’ as one of the initiativesof National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed’.The competition is launched under the theme Inspiring Eco-Urban. Allapplications shall be submitted through Tarsheed page on Kahramaawebsite, after reviewing the terms and conditions, and filling in theregistration form. It is open for all buildings at government,residential, commercial, industrial, hospitality, and sport sectors,according to a statement by Kahramaa.Moreover, the competition ismeant to create awareness about building conservation concept in allsectors of society, create public awareness on the benefits of buildingconservation practices (energy, water), mobilise people and encouragethem to embrace energy conservation strategies, and motivate consumersto adopt building conservation practices in the local constructionmarket, the statement added.Meanwhile, Kahramaa invites eligible owners to apply for the competition.Buildingsshall be evaluated in several phases by a panel of experts wherebuildings shall be evaluated based on specific criteria developed by ateam of experts, as follows: HVAC system, lighting, plumbing fixtures,landscape, operation and maintenance practices, building energymanagement, building automation, sustainability measures, specificenergy/water consumption, building insulation. Winners will beannounced and honoured at Tarsheed 6th Annual Celebration to be held inApril. It is worth mentioning that ‘Conserving Buildings’ are buildingsthat reduce electricity and water consumption, carbon emissions, andprovide better living for residents in the State of Qatar.
