CNA-Q events attract large turnout

The College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q) campus celebrated theNational Sport Day. A variety of activities were offered to appeal toall ages and abilities, including a family swim, billiards tournament,tennis tournament, and kids zone with a bouncy castle.The largest turnout was for the annual Terry Fox Run, which drew a crowdof over 300 people walking, running and cycling a circuit around thestate-of-the-art campus. The Terry Fox Run is an annual event in Canadato raise money for cancer research. The event has been held on the CNA-Qcampus for 14 years now, raising over QR1,000,000 for cancer researchin Qatar.The National Sport Day was an opportunity to become inspired to live ahealthier lifestyle, and the campus community was certainly inspired bystudent Jamela al-Humaidi. Jamela lost 60kg over the past three yearssince starting as a student at the college. She originally sought theadvice of a nutritionist and from there planned her daily eatingroutine, cutting out unnecessary calories and started eating muchhealthier than she had been doing. With the help of the college’s recreation staff she learned to swim byovercoming her severe fear of the water. From there she started usingthe fitness room facilities, and is now starting to train inpowerlifting. The third year Business Management – Accounting student says she has a new lease on life. “My whole weight loss journey made me realise things I never imaginedthat I would be capable of doing. Not only my lifestyle and weightchanged, but also my personality. Because of my journey I was able tocome out of my own shell, in fact my level of confidence boosted to themax.”
