AZF to introduce Qatar’s first-ever dodgeball event

Yearafter year, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) collaborates with variouslocal and international entities to introduce a myriad of unique andexciting activities for its visitors, particularly around key events inQatar. This year, AZF teamed up with the World Dodgeball Association tointroduce Qatar’s first-ever dodgeball competitions, due to take placeon the seventh National Sport Day celebration on Tuesday.Speakingabout the milestone, Nasser Abdullah al-Hajri, chairman of the NSDOrganising Committee at AZF, said, “Ever since the National Sport Daywas announced, AZF has been keen to make each year more memorable thanthe previous one, by introducing new and unique sporting activities forall community members. In previous years, we’ve also launched Qatar’sfirst-ever Japanese Kendo demonstrations and Nordic Walking exercises aswell as rugby tournaments, which encouraged the establishment of theQatar Rugby Federation.”Dodgeball joins the wide range of activitiesthat visitors have come to expect from AZF. It’s similar to a handballgame in which players on two teams try to throw balls at each otherwhile avoiding being hit themselves. There are many variations of thegame, but generally the main objective of each team is to eliminate allmembers of the opposing team by hitting them with thrown balls, catchinga ball thrown by a member of the opposing team, or forcing them to moveoutside the court boundaries when a ball is thrown at them. The ballthat is used for the game is made up of different types, the most commonones are foam, rubber and cloth.The official launch of the eventwill be attended by representatives from the World Dodgeball Association(WDA), which is expected to announce the official launch of the QatarDodgeball Federation, along with representatives from Qatar’s Ministryof Culture and Sports. The event’s activities comprise dodgeballdemonstrations, the unveiling of the Qatar Dodgeball Federation bannerand the launch of the fastest arm in Qatar competition.Theestablishment of the Qatar Dodgeball Federation will encourage thegrowth of dodgeball’s popularity across the country among communities,clubs, schools, colleges and universities and help bring internationaldodgeball events to Doha. It will also contribute to the creation of anew National Dodgeball Competition Framework, including nationalchampionships, and national teams for men and women.The event will take place on Aspire Zone’s Outdoor Pitch 10 from 9am until 3pm.
